Awhile back, I went to the Momofuku Ando Museum of Instant Ramen. Yes, there is a museum about instant ramen. Anyways, the inventor of instant ramen was apparently from Ikeda, located in Osaka. One of my JET friends lives in Ikeda so we decided to have an outing to the museum. We were also lucky enough to get reservations on making your own ramen from scratch!
Here are some pictures of the ramen museum. They have every ramen design available from the very first brand:
The man, the legend. Momofuku Ando, creator of instant ramen!:
This guy is the company’s mascot:
After wandering for a bit, it was finally time to make our own chicken ramen. Making it from scratch was very interesting and fun. I was paired up with Jess, a good friend of mine. I didn’t take many pictures as I was too busy making it. Here’s a pic of the rest of our group though:
While we waited for the ramen to cook, we designed our ramen package. My doodle came out surprisingly well:
Jess’ was far superior though:
We were given our ramen package and a free one to eat later on. After we made our own ramen, it was time to go design our own ramen cup. This session wasn’t as exciting as I thought it was going to be; we just used markers to draw on our ramen cup. The only cool thing is that you can seal it in a plastic bag for you to admire.
I would recommend visiting this museum but I highly suggest signing up for the making your own ramen workshop. I hear it takes months in advance to get reserved spots, so be on the lookout!
