School Projects

In junior high, the 3rd years tend to make a lot of things for English class.  I like to take pictures of them to remember what they did.  Here are just a few!:

This kid is obsessed with biker gangs. Yankee in the future? At least he's nice in class.

This day everyone had to introduced something Japanese to the class. The results were good!

Throwback! Last year we made shortbread. I never got around to showing their posters until now.

Lately we have been doing a lot of speeches along with making posters.  We have been doing it so often that the students can already predict that they will have to present something at by the end of the period.  As expected, some students hate doing it but oddly enough, there are some who don’t mind it at all.  Ina is one of these people.  Actually, the students should probably blame Ina for the amount of speeches we do.  Initially, we weren’t trying to have them do one when they finished writing their project  but Ina just happened to come to the front of the class and started talking!  My JTE and I were both surprised but we decided to have them all do it if they were game.  Since then, Ina will always go up to the front whenever she finishes her writing and says “Hurry up guys!  You guys are too slow!”  She’ll then lean her head on the podium and look at us like a cat lazily laying down by a window. It’s  adorable.

The other students have started to not mind the speeches as well.  Whenever a kid finishes one speech, they can volunteer to go next.  Before no one wanted to but now everyone wants to do it to get it over with.  There has been an ongoing joke where Shun will always go last on the speeches.  I had been accidentally calling his name last but didn’t realize it until last week.  At the end of the period, he said to himself “Man, I wonder if I’ll be able to go first next week…?”  I’d feel like a jerk if I didn’t let him do it now!

Having kids fight on who gives a short English speech in front of class.  Man my junior high is awesome.
