Wow it’s been nearly a month since I posted anything. Expect that to change now that I’ll be having more downtime. Anyways…
Before summer break started, my junior high kids did a little project. In it, my students had to recommend a location in Japan to a visitor coming to Japan. Some of the results made sense (famous shrines in Kyoto, the Tsutentkaku Tower in Osaka) but others were just hilarious like a shopping mall. But I guess to a 14 year old, the mall or a nearby park is the coolest thing to them.
Maido was all about showing off Izumiya, the local shopping mall. The drawing she made to was great:
The Glico Man, a famous ad showing a runner happily cross the finish line of a race from the Dontobori Bridge, makes a special appearance on the bottom right. The reason she drew it is because Mao was having difficulty drawing it for her picture of the bridge. Maido being Maido, took the initiative and drew it on her picture, saying “Look Mao! This is how you draw the Glico Man!” Everyone laughed. Maido’s speech about Izumiya is just as good as the picture:
With a little help from me (and maybe Maido), Mao finished her drawing of the Glico Man. It’s definitely better than Maido’s:
Students saw Mao’s picture and agreed it was a pretty good representation. After showing it to everyone during her speech, Maido yelled “It looks just like mine!! There’s no difference at all!!” Laughter ensued.
As a bonus, I’ll include Ichiro’s picture of Tennoji Zoo. This was by far the most popular picture of the class. School is starting soon and I look forward to seeing my third years just for the silly anecdotes like this one.
